After budget cuts forced San Francisco to eliminate school buses, David led the fight to provide free Muni for low-income youth so they could get to school and to their after-school activities.

Working with Occupy Bernal and other organizations, David is taking on the banks to stop the wave of illegal foreclosures that are tearing families from their homes.
End the Health Care Ripoff
When it was discovered that city restaurants were adding health care surcharges to customer's bills, but then pocketing the money instead of using it for employee health care, David led the fight to end this rip-off of Healthy San Francisco.
Fighting for Our Neighborhoods
In his first year in office, David restored over $43 million in neighborhood services, allowing neighborhood centers, pools and recreation centers to stay open.
Protect Women’s Health Clinic Patients
David is working closely with women’s health providers to devise legislation to stop harassment of clinic patients by right-wing extremists.
An immigrant himself, David is a strong supporter of immigrant families. He has helped protect day laborers, increased economic opportunities, and strengthened sanctuary city policies that prevent undocumented youth accused of felonies from being deported unless they are convicted of the crime.
Stop Housing Demolition
David is a staunch advocate for rent control, and fought for tenants’ rights in face of the flawed Park Merced proposal to demolish 1,500 rent controlled units.
A long-time advocate of community policing, David worked to bring police and violence prevention organizations together and helped reduce violence in the Mission and other neighborhoods.
David is a strong backer of public power and Community Choice Aggregation, which will soon launch to bring San Franciscans the choice of clean energy instead of PG&E.
